Tobias George Smollett (March 19, 1721 - September 17, 1771) was a Scottish author, best known for his picaresque novels, such as Roderick Random and Peregrine Pickle.

Smollett was innate at Dalquhurn, now a share of Renton, in present-day West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He was a boy of a judge & l&-property owner, and was educated at the University of Glasgow, qualifying as a surgeon.
